In this video you'll see that there are three roles on the Drama Triangle. There's a victim, a persecutor, and a rescuer. It's important to note right up front that there is such a thing as a genuine victim, a genuine persecutor, and a genuine rescuer.
A genuine victim might be a child being neglected or abused. The persecutor would be the abuser, and the rescuer would be the social services or law enforcement personnel called in to the rescue.
A persecutor can be a person, a medical condition, a financial shortcoming, anything that causes what might be considered a problem for the victim.
A rescuer is anyone who comes in to rescue the victim from the persecutor.
When a child grows up in an abusive or neglectful environment their status as a genuine victim can harden into a mentality, which can be thought of as a cluster of core beliefs and attitudes that keep us stuck with a sense of powerlessness, hopelessness, worthlessness, and/or helplessness.
This podcast will outline the way to break out of the Victim Mentality and discover the empowering truth that comes with adopting the alternative Creator Mentality. The LSPM Model outlines the reality that the victim mentality is not a choice we make, it is the language of reactivity that comes with being triggered into survival mode. The Creator mentality is the language of proactivity that comes with living in growth mode.
In 12-step groups we call growth mode “recovery” and see it as a requirement for “living life on life’s terms”. Anyone on a path of recovery from emotional wounds, attachment wounds, and various forms of trauma is in Creator Mentality. It can be a daily struggle to stay in growth mode, but with help we at least have a choice now - because we are not victims any longer.
