What to Not Do?

My husband and I have been dealing with an addicted son for 15 yrs. Even though he has been the love of our lives, he is destroying us emotionally. We need to find a way of letting go as he is an immature 38 yr old man. More than unhappy, recently laid off and we are scared as the words suicide have come into context. Doe anyone have any advice for us we are 67 yrs. old newly retired and don't really feel like we want to follow him down this road. Do you think a Dr. Phil letter would help.
