lost and scared

I've recently experienced a life issue that has caused me to realize I have serious problems with rejection and abandonment issues. I come from a dsyfuncional family where acholism and sexual abuse were my life from ages 9 through 14...My father drank and my mother was aware of the sexual abuse at my older brothers hands..she did nothing to protect me.
I dont know where to start to deal with my issues so any help would be appriciated.

I have just posted a new page on the website that offers a solution. It is our Transforming the Inner Family of Self coaching program (TIFS) coaching program.

Click here to read more about TIFS

If you find the information on this site useful and enlightening, then you will benefit greatly from TIFS. I have had great success helping others increase self-awareness and heal their abandonment issues with this process.

TIFS is not for everyone, especially if you are in the midst of a major depressive episode. When that is the case, you need acute care (short term) for that. And when the depression is lifted it is important to create a safe container (support network) in your local environment (a support group, church group, counselor, sponsor, etc).

With those things in place, you can take on the issues and begin the TIFS process to heal the past and get "unstuck"!

Blessings,
Don

It truly is a frightening prospect (I know because I went thru it myself) but on the other hand so is staying stuck and staying the same! :)

I am sure if you have a belief in a higher power or God, but it always helped me to say a little prayer to be led to the person who could help me get well. :)

I have begun the search for a therapist to help me navigate this process. This website has been a wonderful resource but of course cannot replace the one on one time needed to attack this issue.
I am so scared but so hopeful at the same time. I know the battle ahead of me is one that I can face but its still a frightening prospect.

Sounds like this situation has brought about your desire to start addressing these issues. Not an easy time but I commend you for reaching out and beginning the process.

There are a number of places you can start to learn about abandonment issues on this site. The Iceberg model is always a good place to start. It is a power point lecture that lays a good foundation for understanding the dynamics.

Talking with a counselor about these core issues is usually a positive step. Especially one that understands abandonment and sexual abuse issues. If you find a counselor and it doesn't work out, don't stop, find another one.

If there is an Adult Child of Alcoholics meeting anywhere near you I would suggest trying that out too. It has been a lifesaver in helping me with my issues. You can go online and find out more about ACoA support groups.

Good luck and let us know how you are doing.
