Hi. My daughter is 26 and has 3 kids. she is bi polar and on heroin (2-4 bags a day)i tried to have her 302 in a mental dual unit and they denied it cause she has SVT a condition with her heart, i then had a mobile unit come to home and because shes on drugs no help. my daughter is reckless and gave up on life and has said many many times she wants to die. i backed off cause i couldn't handle her hounding me for money and her verbal abuse to me. Is there a law where i can get legal rights over her to put on in detox and rehab in phila. pa? my child is dying in front of me and its gone a put me in hospital. i know shes a adult but her mental state is off. please someone tell me how to force her in ? plz email me at email removed - for safety sake

Legal advice not an option
by: Don Carter

Hi,

Sorry for these things you are going through with your daughter. It sounds like a nightmare!

I am also sorry to let you know we are not a good source for legal advice (unless an attorney from your home state is here).

I can suggest that you get in touch with the PA dept of health or mental health. The would be a clearing house for resources and information that are available. If you have already looked there and found the state of PA to be woefully inadequate in its response to addiction you are not alone.

If the treatment does exist - get someone committed is very difficult and often times impossible. One more thing to consider is to contact an attorney who specializes in commitments and competency cases. They would be the ones to say what is possible or not.

Our prayers are with you,
Don Carter
