Hi, my name is Angie Carter. I'm a certified substance abuse counselor (CSAC II) in private practice with my husband Don Carter. I also teach SATOP classes for individuals who have received DUI’s or DWI’s. Prior to this I was the director of a non-profit recovery support center and have also been a counselor at an adolescent treatment center.
Don and I have three children -- he has a son and a daughter and I have a son. We have a bunch of grandkids and feel very blessed! They are a great source of joy in our lives. I just celebrated 15 years of recovery last month and am in awe of how wonderful my life is today.
I grew up in a family where alcoholism was very prevalent. My siblings and I were raised by a single mom who struggled financially. I left home at age 16 and had my son at 18. My path with drugs and alcohol landed me three DWI’s and a variety of other problems. I was a hard worker, beginning at age 13, so I managed to take of myself and my son, but eventually my alcoholism almost cost me my job and they agreed to send me to treatment.
Once I got serious about working a recovery program (I had a relapse in the beginning) my life started change in a big way! I got my GED, started college and began my career as a counselor, got married, found my father after a 35 year absence, I now live in a nice house on a lake, started gardening and have made some of the best friends in the world. They say gratitude should be shown through action, so I try to give back what was freely given to me. I truly am grateful.
